Growing and sharing at the Marlborough Community Gardens​
 

About 60 people came along on November 4, 2021  to see how this enthusiastic group of gardeners are growing food, sharing knowledge and working together for a healthy future.

Guest speakers Mike Trought (kumura growing) and Dion Mundy (beekeepers), and other members covered  what's involved:

• 100 gardeners, 74 plots

• Sharing seedlings, knowledge and food

• Careful irrigation and mulching to conserve water

• Workshops on compost making, chemical-free pest control, soil health

• Commitment to Te Ao Māori, rongoā medicinal plants and harakeke plantings

• Connections with a wide range of cultures and organisations

• Volunteers working for more than a decade for community good

 

The morning was rounded off with home-made baking, featuring ingredients from the gardens. Congratulations to the winners of the Community Innovation Award, sponsored by Kūmānu Environmental.
